Have decided to knit a few more large hobo handbags for felting. They are really fun to do, and the results are always a surprise. Getting more than one ready for felting at the same time, saves hot water when it’s time to felt. I’ve finished the knitting and crocheting for the first one . It’s called: “The chicken or the egg?”…It’s a favorite saying of a certain pragmatist I know, and I found all the theme ingredients for this recipe in my fabric and yarn stash. Using two strands of yarn, one a bulky mohair and the other a self-striping 100% Andean wool and a size 13 circular needle, I cast on 92 stitches, joined and knit around for five rows, then purled two rows, and repeated this pattern for 18 inches or so.

Decreasing for a rectangular bottom can be found here. The strap is knit in a regular garter stitch of 7 stitches across for 22 inches. I have crocheted and stuffed eggs in the Andean wool yarn to attach as embellishment to the front of the hobo bag.

The lining is the chicken fabric, which will be sewn to fit this large purse and pockets attached for cell phone, lipstick, and miscellaneous handbag accessories.
